The group in Pallerols

A "scout group" of Filipino pilgrims followed the route of Pallerols, Fenollet, Andorra, Lourdes and Torreciudad on what they hope will eventually be known as the "Camino de San Josemaria".

Dr. Melvin and Marissa Saludes came from West Virginia, USA while Atty. Bodeck and Geraldine Fernando came from the Philippines, upon the invitation of Ignasi Forcada and Jess. The idea was for them to help "pave the way" for many other pilgrims, who would follow in the footsteps of St. Josemaria and his group, when they  travelled through the Pyrenees from Barcelona to Andorra. The invitation was for a pilgrimage, which meant praying together and doing a lot of walking.

After the send-off point of La Merced in Barcelona, the first stop was Pallerols. Along with a walk to the Cabana, this provided the "scout group" an opportunity to know more about St. Josemaria and the difficulties he and his group had to endure in order to make that first walk to freedom through the Pyrenees. It enabled them to pray all four parts of the Rosary, taking into account the special favor Our Lady gave to St. Josemaria in Pallerols.

After a brief break in Fenollet, the pilgrimage group went to the chapel, which is a short distance from where St. Josemaria and his group actually crossed into Andorra. They venerated the image of our Father in the church in Sant Julia, where they heard Mass. Jordi Piferrer served as a special tour guide for the group in Andorra the following morning. They were struck by the friendliness and the openness of the people of Andorra whom they met, and Jordi explained that St. Josemaria—based on the written accounts of his companions---experienced the same welcoming attitude.

Lourdes was a special stop where the pilgrims got soaked due to the rain that fell during the Rosary procession that they joined. But if Lourdes was special, then Torreciudad was even more so. The group was welcomed with a video presentation, in English, about Torreciudad. They appreciated seeing our Father speak with passion and conviction about the motherly love and concern of Our Lady. They all took advantage of the confessional box, and this they did on their own, without any direct suggestion from anyone. Even as they tried to take in everything they could about the big esplanade and the Church with its very special reredos, they were particularly moved by the stations of the different sorrows and joys of St. Joseph on the way to the old shrine.

All along the way, the four parts of the Rosary plus spiritual reading from the works of St. Josemaria helped provide a prayerful character to this pilgrimage, which served to bring the members of the "scout group" much closer to Our Lady and more appreciative of the spirit and message transmitted by St. Josemaria.

In the process of course Ignasi, Teo and Jess became very good friends of all the members of this scout group. They all resolved to help in the effort to have many more groups come after them.
